Our Teaching Experience
As Teacher Education students both of us are going to school for learning how to make lesson plans, effective classroom management, the different types of instruction, etc. For the Nevada 150th PBL we decided to use the knowledge we had gained and use it in a real classroom. We went into a fifth grade classroom and taught them about the states of matter using dry ice. Each student received an outline which included a review, background information, hypothesis, observations, and review questions to put in their Science Notebook. The students filled in their hypothesis after reading the background information and having each experiment explained. Then we did the experiment with the children. The first experiment was placing a regular ice cube next to a piece of dry ice and then seeing the changes after one hour. The second experiment was placing a piece of dry ice inside of a glass of warm water. The third experiment was adding dish soap to the glass of water with dry ice already in it.
